Calling Portsmouth- the city council needs your help

Civic Offices Portsmouth City Council needs Portsmouth residents and workers!

The council is looking for a person from the local community to act as an independent standing deputy on its Standards Committee. They would be an essential member of the committee, which is made up of representatives from the political groups on the city council, two Southsea town councillors, and independent members of the public.

The Standards Committee is the body that oversees the council’s arrangements for elected councillors and maintaining the conduct of elected councillors and officers, what they do and how they do it. The person selected would play a part in making sure that those arrangements are in the interest of the public.

The role is voluntary and it’s a fantastic opportunity to see how the authority works, as well as being a way to get involved.

Some knowledge of local government is an advantage to applicants, but not essential. What the council is looking for is someone who is objective, independent and impartial, with a real interest in the city. Candidates must therefore live or work in Portsmouth, and have no connection with the council, any of its councillors or staff or any other local authority.

Interested? Application forms are available from the Civic Offices at the address below or by phoning (023) 9268 8361.
