Guy Fawkes night is fast approaching and Portsmouth City Council will be hosting their annual free fireworks extravaganza at King George V playing fields.
The Lord Mayor Richard Jensen will light a massive bonfire on 5 November at 7pm and the spectacular fireworks display will start at 7.30pm. Local radio station Wave 105 FM will be there with their roadshow from 6pm.
DC Leisure Manager Danny Green, who organises the event on behalf of the council said: “This is a really popular event so I would suggest that people get to the site in plenty of time, and walk or use public transport wherever possible.
“There are limited free car parking spaces available at IBM so people need to leave home early if they are bringing their cars.
“Bollards will be placed along major routes to help with traffic flow, but it’s a good idea for people to avoid the area if they are not coming to the event.”
Northern Road will be closed, except for buses, from its junction with Portsmouth Road northbound to its junction with Medina Road roundabout from 7.45pm to 8.15pm to allow people to leave in safety.
The display uses over £6,000 worth of fireworks from the world-renowned manufacturer and display organisers Kimbolton Fireworks of Cambridge. People are urged not to bring their own fireworks or sparklers to the event.
