Tickets for the Freedom of the City Ceremony have now almost all gone but if you are not able to score yourself a ticket, you can still see all of the players as the event will be broadcast live on the Big Screen in Guildhall Square.
The Freedom of the City will be given to Harry Redknapp and Portsmouth Football Club’s 2008 FA Cup winning squad at the historic ceremony at the Guildhall on Tuesday 28 October.
Lord Mayor Cllr Richard Jensen will be joined by distinguished guests and VIPs from Portsmouth Football Club.
Doors open at 1.30pm and the ceremony will start around 2pm. The Royal Navy Guard and Royal Marines Band Portsmouth will be performing at the ceremony and the F.A Cup Trophy will be part of the procession escorted by a Royal Navy Guard. They will be joined by a guard of honour consisting of twelve Portsmouth Football Club mascots.
Chief Executive David Williams will present scrolls to Harry Redknapp and to Sol Campbell on behalf of the rest of the FA Cup winning squad. Three pupils each from Flying Bull Junior School and Meon Junior School will act as scroll bearers wearing Portsmouth football kits donated by the club.
Harry Redknapp, Manager Portsmouth Football Club said “It is a great privilege to be given the freedom of the city. On behalf of myself and all the players I would like to thank the people of Portsmouth for their amazing support during last year's FA Cup campaign and for bestowing this honour on us."
Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Leader of Portsmouth City Council said “Pompey winning the FA Cup for the first time since 1939 was a fantastic achievement. This special ceremony lets the whole city honour that triumph.”
