It’s your vote. Make sure you don’t lose it

Don't lose your right to vote! Portsmouth residents are being urged to complete and return their voter registration forms, to make sure they are able to vote.

By law, Portsmouth City Council has to carry out an annual audit between August and November and has sent voter registration forms out to every property in the city to make sure our Register of Electors is up to date.

Now the city council is asking residents who haven’t yet returned their forms, to make sure their details are correct, update their information where necessary and return the forms as soon as possible. If residents don’t return their forms, they and those living in their households may not be registered and therefore may not be able to vote.

Election Services Officer, Gill Preddy, said: “Your vote is your opportunity to have your say about who runs the country, who runs your council and who represents you. It is really important that you return your registration form to us as soon as possible and make sure you are able to vote.

“Local elections are not scheduled for 2009 in Portsmouth but as elections can be called at short notice and with the European elections in June next year, you need to make sure you are registered so you can have your say.”

Anyone who doesn’t need to change the details on their form can renew by phone or online. Contact the Elections Office for more information. Residents can visit the Elections Office in person at the Civic Offices, call them on 9283 4074, email elections@portsmouthcc.gov.uk, or visit the website at www.portsmouth.gov.uk.
