A weekly social group for the over 55s, called ‘Life Matters’, has been launched featuring a packed programme of events. They include food tasting and healthy cooking demonstrations, Thai Chi workshops, healthy walks, plus crime prevention and winter warmth advice.
The sessions aim to encourage older people in the local community to socialise, eat healthily and take part in hobbies and themed workshops.
The ‘Life Matters’ sessions run from 2pm – 3.45pm on Thursdays at St Cuthbert’s Centre, Hayling Avenue, Copnor, in the Wells Smith Room.
Weekly Thai Chi sessions will begin at the centre on 4th November, 11am - 12 noon.
They are organised and funded by Portsmouth City Council’s Health Improvement and Development Service (HIDS), in partnership with Portsmouth City Teaching Primary Care Trust and St Cuthbert’s Centre, who are hosting the sessions.
Portsmouth City Council’s Mary Lambert helped organise the sessions. She said: “This is a great opportunity for people to come along, meet friends, try some of the activities and find out what the new centre at St Cuthbert’s has to offer.”
“We’ve had a good response so far with around 40 people signing up, but we would encourage even more local people to come along and join in the fun.”
For more information please call St Cuthbert’s Centre managers Heather Hostler on 07920 484591 or Jackie Smith 07505 194917. Alternatively, just pop along on the day. All are most welcome.
