Pyramids to showcase Portsmouth talent with new Festival of Arts

the Pyramids Centre, Southsea Filmmakers and street dancers will be joining an array of colourful local talent when the new three-day Festival of Arts opens at the Pyramids Centre on Southsea seafront next week.

A wide variety of Portsmouth-based artists will be taking the opportunity to showcase their works, including glassmakers and painters, ceramicists, sculptors and jewellery makers.

Visitors will also be able to see artist photography and a special film exhibit produced by the Portsmouth Film Makers. And Streetforce DC will be bringing movement and action to the festival with a series of street dance performances.

Councillor Terry Hall, Cabinet member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The Festival of Arts is a great opportunity for local artists and performers to exhibit their work, showing off Portsmouth’s fantastic array of local talent.

“As well as everything from photography to jewellery making, there will also be live performances that should contribute to a real festival atmosphere for visitors of all ages to come along and enjoy.”

The festival runs from Friday 19 September until Sunday 21 September, from 10am-8pm. Portsmouth radio station, Express FM, will be broadcasting live from the Pyramids on Friday and the event will be opened by Heather James, columnist from The News and Express FM presenter.

The Festival of Arts is being organised by Portsmouth Expo, a group of local artists. The aim is to encourage all kinds of different local artists to show off their work and to encourage up and coming talent. The exhibition marks the end of a successful quest by Portsmouth Expo to find a suitable indoor venue to display a range of art, from painting and sculpture to live performances.

Admission to the festival is free and some of the work on display will also be for sale.
