Freedom of the City for Harry Redknapp and the Portsmouth Football Club 2008 FA Cup winning squad

FA Cup At yesterday's (Tuesday 22 July) meeting of the Full Council the decision was made:

'That a council meeting be convened on Thursday 31 July at 2 pm in accordance with the Local Government Act 1972 s. 249 formally to consider admission of Harry Redknapp and the 2008 F.A. Cup winning squad to be honorary Freemen of the City of Portsmouth.

The city council resolves to amend street signs on the entrance to the city to say 'Home of Pompey, FA Cup Winners 2008'.
Any costs involved in undertaking these actions to be met from within contingency.

A proposal to rename a Guildhall Bell be deferred for early consideration.'

Chief Executive David Williams said: "It was very much Portsmouth Football Club's day at yesterday's meeting of Portsmouth City Council. The councillors - still overjoyed at the club's FA Cup success - and in the presence of the cup itself, started the formal process towards granting Freedom of the City for the squad and Harry Redknapp.

"A special council meeting to decide on this will be held at the Guildhall on Thursday of next week (31 July)."
