A 'good school' with a 'stimulating environment' the Ofsted verdict for Northern Parade
A 'good and improving school' is the outcome for Northern Parade Infant School after their recent Ofsted inspection.
Government inspectors concluded the school has an outstanding curriculum where pupils undertake 'learning journeys' which involve them in problem solving activities across a range of subjects.
The extent to which pupils adopt a healthy lifestyle was also considered to be outstanding.
The leadership and management at the school were praised with the head teacher highlighted as 'excellent' and 'ably supported by a dedicated team of staff and governors' who 'work effectively to promote the school's values and aims'.
Ofsted cited three areas in where the school could improve further. These were to:
- Raise standards in writing by providing more opportunities for writing for different purposes, particularly for the more able pupils.
- In the Foundation Stage, increase the range and quality of learning experiences in the outdoors.
- Develop a more focused improvement plan to increase the roles of leaders and managers at all levels in strategic planning, monitoring and self-evaluation.
Attendance of pupils at the school was also highlighted as an area where improvements could be made.
Parents also recognise how well their children are achieving and give positive support to the school, with typical views including 'my daughter has come on leaps and bounds in this lovely school'.
The inspectors also felt that the needs of each pupils were identified early, and that their personal development is also good.
Head teacher Mrs Sue Wilson said: "I am pleased that Northern Parade has maintained its rating as a good school, which is a testament to the hard work of our staff and pupils.
"We have worked hard since our last Ofsted report to raise the standards of achievement and it is good that the inspectors have recognised the above average standards that are now being reached. "
The school has an Artsmark Gold, an Activemark for Sport, and Healthy Schools status. Extended services are also available, including family learning programmes and out of school care.
