Visiting walkers put their best feet forward in Portsmouth
Healthy walkers from Slough will be putting their best feet forward in Portsmouth on Tuesday (22 July 2008) when they will be joining fellow walkers for a stroll through the city.
The walkers will be stepping out on the regular Tuesday lunchtime walk that goes from the Guildhall Square to Gunwharf Quays and along the seafront. The group will then enjoy a picnic lunch in Victoria Park, before finishing their trip by learning a bit more about the history of Portsmouth at the City Museum.
Councillor Leo Madden, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said “It is great to be able to welcome people to the city from other Healthy Walk schemes and we are delighted the walkers from Slough have decided to pay us a visit.
“As well as getting all the health benefits of taking a lunchtime stroll, they will get a taste of all the many fantastic attractions that Portsmouth has to offer its visitors and the people who live here.”
The Healthy Walks team from Portsmouth City Council organises ten regular walks across the city each week, taking in a range of different sights and sounds, from the seafront to Baffins Pond. The walks are all free and are suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Trained volunteers lead the walks and encourage and support progress. Anyone interested in joining the free lunchtime walk should meet in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth, at 12.05pm on Tuesday 22 July.
