Strawberry fair – Saturday 12 July

Strawberry The annual Strawberry Fair will be taking place at Buckland Play Park, Malins Road in Buckland on Saturday 12 July from 11am until 4pm. 

A range of fun activities will be available for everyone to enjoy.  There will be music from Portsmouth’s Youth Band, performances by the Dynamic Twirlers who will be twirling their batons and a Wild West show in early afternoon with a real cowboy fight in an authentic setting. 

Buckland’s Boxing Club will be offering a chance to have a go at boxing and Portsmouth Museum will be brining along an exhibition about the history of Buckland.

There will be a DJ and a range of children’s games, a kiddies train, bouncy castle as well as face painting, henna tattoos, small animals, coconut shy, a plant stall and a raffle and tombola.

Strawberries and cream will be available for purchase as well as a range of refreshments.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Richard Jensen, will be attending.  All funds are raised will be given to Buckland Play Centre to support their activities.

Maureen Maplesden, Chair of the Buckland Park Play Association, said: “I’m really looking forward to the Strawberry Fair, it’s going to be a lot of fun.  It has taken about six months to organise and it will be well worth it as there is always a lovely atmosphere. 

“We’ve been holding the event for 24 years and it’s an excellent way of bringing the community together for a fun day out.”

Cllr Steven Wylie, Portsmouth City Council’s Executive Member for Housing, said: “The Strawberry Fair has been running for many years and is an extremely successful event. 

“It is a great example of residents and organisations in the community working together to achieve a positive outcome. 

“I attended last year and it was a really wonderful day which makes the most of community facilities.  I have the same expectations for Saturday’s event and would encourage everyone to come along to enjoy a nice day out.”
