City welcomes home Lively Lady

Lively Lady Portsmouth City Council is rolling out the red carpet tonight (Tuesday 8 July) for a civic reception at the Guildhall which celebrates the triumphant return of Lively Lady on Saturday 5 July from her epic two year round the world voyage.

Owned by the city council, the boat in which Sir Alec Rose circumnavigated the globe exactly 40 years was welcomed by hundreds of onlookers when she made her way into Portsmouth Harbour at the weekend.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Richard Jensen, will formally welcome the skipper of The Raymarine Lively Lady Project, Alan Priddy, the historic boat's co-skippers and around 30 young people who acted as crew at 6.30pm. The visitors will travel to The Guildhall in an open topped bus from Lively Lady's berth at Gunwharf Quays to the Guildhall.

Councillor Terry Hall, Cabinet member for Culture and Leisure said: "The city council is proud to welcome Lively Lady back home to Portsmouth after her round the world voyage, which has changed the lives of all the young people who took part. This has been an amazing experience for each one, and something they can look back on with pride in the years to come."

Alan Priddy, project skipper said: "This reception, together with the amazing welcome we received from all our supporters at the homecoming on Saturday, is a valuable recognition of the enormous achievements of all our young adults. The Raymarine Lively Lady Project has become a real success story and one we're all proud to be a part of."
