A new lease of life for Strouden Court

housing plans Portsmouth City Council has unveiled visionary plans for the regeneration and development of Strouden Court in Leigh Park.  It marks the beginning of an exciting period of substantial investment to improve the area for the benefit of the local community.

The scheme will provide residents with a safe and secure environment in a sustainable community, where there is local employment and housing opportunities.  The development will have minimal impact on the surrounding countryside.  Under used and inadequate buildings will be demolished to make way a new lease of life.  

The project - expected to be completed by 2012 - will benefit from the proposed Havant Thicket reservoir and anticipated infrastructure to the A3 road network which will bring new access to the area.  Plans include regeneration of the shopping centre to create a vibrant community hub with retail outlets and other business opportunities.  Quality affordable housing will be built with a package of support incentives to assist easy entry into the housing market.  Improvements will also be made to the area.  

Andrew Geer, resident representative for Leigh Park, said: “We are impressed with the plans for the regeneration of Strouden Court – it’s been a long time coming but it will be really good for the area. 

“A revamp of the shopping centre will be great for the local community and is just what we all need.”

Alison Cloutman, Portsmouth City Council’s Housing Development Officer, said: “I am looking forward to working alongside residents and businesses within Strouden Court to develop the new area.  This project will enable us to help them realise plans for a better community.”

Cllr Steven Wylie, Portsmouth City Council’s Executive Member for Housing, said: “This should prove to be a flagship development for Portsmouth City Council and a model for our future development projects in the area. 

“We will be working very closely with residents to ensure we bring new prosperity to Strouden Court for the benefit of everyone who lives there.”
