Parks and open spaces - excellent. Congratulations to all gardeners.
Events team for all they do brilliantly well. Bandstand throughout the summer. Opera in the park. Screen for FA cup final on common.
Keeping residents informed, eg through Flagship.
Landscaping and planting up space by road developments, eg Copnor Bridge. High standards in parks.
Education - the Children's University is fantastic to children.
The free summer events are second to none.
The recent upgrading of the roads and pavements has worked very well. The speed with which the contractors work means that disruption is kept to a minimum.
The public gardens are a wonderful sight and even in winter are really beautiful and a credit to the town and work of the Parks department. I don't know the costings but they are worth every penny spent on them.
The helpdesk and other representatives are always helpful.
Waste collection is usually good making Portsmouth a vibrant city.
From a selfish point of view it maintains the verges and hedges remarkably well (ie Anchorage Park) and 20 mph in side streets - great!
Things we could improveI would like to see the Rock Gardens improved. Restored to how they were in the 1950's. A flood lit working fountain and gardens throughout the summer months, where people of all ages could sit, stroll, and enjoy. Maybe some small animals and birds. I can remember in the 40s and 50s, families would make a special trip in the summer evenings to see the lovely Rock Gardens, they gave such pleasure, and during the daytime mothers could take their children. This could also bring employments, ie upkeep, maintenance and security.
Collect one bag of garden waste per household per month.
Enforce no parking in cycle lanes.
Lack of traffic Wardens in our area - Ewart Road.
Restriction on cycling on promenade enforced (except small children).
Improve standards of bowling greens.
Undercover entertainment on our common such as an ice rink. The expanse of common is fine if the weather is ok. Although its sunny Southsea it has been know to rain.
Cracked and un-level pavements. Clear and improve areas of accumulated rubbish and weeds - back of houses along railway at Copnor and provide car parking spaces for residents.
Stop cycling on pavements.
Much more for children. There is not many facilities for free access to things like swimming, ice skating etc for families on low income. Ask the children what they would like.
Bus shelters in Norway Road.
The victorian fountain at Kingston Cemetery hasn't worked for years! couldn't a new type of pump be installed? In a place where people are visiting their lost loved ones wouldn't it make a nice reminder of their visit to see the fountain restored to its working glory!
