Find out more about fostering

Spinnaker Tower If you have ever thought about fostering then register for Portsmouth City Council's free Fostering Information Evening which is taking place at the Spinnaker Tower from 7.30pm this Thursday (26 June).

Foster carers will be sharing their experiences before answering any questions about the reality of fostering. Guests will then have an opportunity to chat informally to carers and social workers on the viewing deck of the tower.

Portsmouth is currently in need of at least 40 more foster placements to ensure local children can be looked after close to their own schools and communities. There is a particular need for long term carers and carers for the placement of children over the age of eight years, teenagers and groups of brothers and sisters who need to be fostered together.

Carers come from a range of backgrounds and there are no restrictions in terms of age or marital status. Qualifications are not necessary but special personal qualities are. There are also a number of different types of foster carer from long-term carers to ones providing respite care, so there are opportunities to suit anyone's circumstances.

Fiona Armfield, Portsmouth City Council's Senior Manager for Looked After Children, said: "If you have ever thought about fostering then please ring us to book your place(s) at the information evening so you can decide if fostering is for you."

The event is open to anyone in Portsmouth, Hampshire and surrounds who would like to know more about fostering.

If you would like to attend please call 023 9282 9846 to book your place(s).
