New carers are needed for Portsmouth City Council's Family Link Scheme, to provide short breaks for children with disabilities and their families.
The Family Link Scheme offers local families flexible short breaks overnight or time during the day. This supports families in their caring role, introduces new experiences for the children linked, and plays a vital part in the family's well being.
You will be paid an allowance as an approved Short Break Foster Carer, be introduced to an identified family needing support, and make a mutual agreement about how you will provide short break care in your own home. All this will be co-ordinated by your Family Link Social Worker who will work closely with you and your linked family. Family Link Carers come from a range of backgrounds, a willingness to respond to a family in need is an essential criteria for joining the Family link Scheme rather than previous experience of children with disabilities.
The Family Link Scheme has been providing to Portsmouth children for 15 years making successfull links and supporting carers. You will develop nationally recognised skills in fostering care and be offered a range of training opportunities.
Portsmouth City Council are launching a campaign on Monday 9th June to recruit carers for families waiting to be linked.
Fergus Cameron, Manager of the Family Link Scheme, said: "A short break really does go a long way, providing care in an ongoing relationship and practical support makes a real difference to everybody involved."
