Travel back in time to meet the Tudors
Get a taste of Tudor life at Southsea Castle on Wednesday 11 June from 4 - 6.30pm.Step back in time on Wednesday 11 June to glimpse what life was like in Tudor times for people living and working at Southsea Castle - one in a series of forts constructed for King Henry VIII.
'An Audience with the Tudors' includes time guides to transport you away to meet the Castle Guard - but be careful how you answer their questions if you want to venture further into the Castle to be introduced to the rest of the garrison. Once past the guards you'll be invited to watch the cooks as they prepare a banquet fit for a king.
Other Tudor characters on parade include Lady Mary and Sir George Carew - Sir George will be looking for 'Powder Monkeys' to serve on the Mary Rose - and in the Armoury you can learn about Tudor weaponry and try on some real armour. Or meet the archer and gunner and watch them make things go up in smoke!
Bryony Kelly, Education Officer added: "We've invited a group called Tempus Fugitive back to Southsea Castle for the 13th year in a row. This event - usually run exclusively for schools - has been opened up for everyone by popular demand and is an opportunity for all the family to experience history coming alive when you step back in time to 1545."
An Audience with the Tudors takes place at Southsea Castle from 4pm - 6.30pm and admission is free. Most - but not all - of the Castle is accessible to people with physical disabilities.
