Spinnaker Tower internal lift update
The Spinnaker Tower's internal lift will be put back in service on Thursday 5 June, ahead of schedule, following essential works by lift engineers Kone. It will be open to take visitors up to the viewing decks as normal from 10am tomorrow.
Part of the works being carried out will be completed today, so the lift can go back into operation. However, there will need to be a second phase of works carried out at some point in the future.
Following nearly three years of service, the internal lift at the 170 metre tall Tower has performed exceptionally well, carrying over a million visitors to the top of the Tower. Just like any other lift it requires routine maintenance that will need to happen as a matter of course during its life cycle.
The Tower has received 328 visitors to the Tower over the last two days (excluding today), who have walked up the 560 steps to the viewing decks, to enjoy the views. They received a reduced admission price of £3 for adults and free for children.
Paul Mahy, Commercial Manager at the Spinnaker Tower: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused to visitors this week, and are pleased to have still been able to welcome a few hundred visitors to walk up the Tower. Kone has done an excellent job in completing the first phase of the works early and we are delighted it will be back in operation tomorrow.
"We would like to advise that unfortunately there will need to be a second phase of engineering works at some point in the future. This is something which is unavoidable, as a new serviceable part needs to be produced. As ever we will seek to minimise any disruption caused. This is one of Kone's busiest lifts in the UK and therefore will require routine maintenance from time to time."
