Entry is free on D-Day
The D-Day Museum in Southsea is offering free entry to visitors on Friday 6 June to mark the 64th anniversary of D-Day.
Visitors can meet veterans of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy and hear about their memories and experiences.
Re-enactors and historic military vehicles will be at the museum to give visitors a feel for the uniforms and equipment of the period.
Andrew Whitmarsh, Military History Officer at the museum said "The Museum is Britain's only visitor attraction whose sole purpose is to commemorate and inform the public about the 1944 Normandy landings which led to the end of the Second World War. This is an opportunity to see the museum's displays, which tell the story of the preparations for D-Day in which Portsmouth played a major part. Visitors can also share some of the experiences of Portsmouth people during the Second World War."
Also on display is the Overlord Embroidery, a modern-day equivalent of the Bayeux Tapestry, which shows the preparations for D-Day, the day itself and the subsequent Battle of Normandy. At 272ft (83m) in length it is the world's longest embroidery of its kind.
