Great South Runs gets set, as race closes to general entries
Portsmouth is preparing for another huge sporting triumph as the Bupa Great South Run, Britain’s biggest 10-mile running event, has closed its doors for general entries.
Famous for its flat running course through Portsmouth and Southsea, the Bupa Great South Run will take place on Sunday 26 October 2008. This year’s event is set to be the biggest ever, with a record 19,000 participants expected to line-up at the start, that’s 500 more than last year.
Although general entries are now closed, a number of charities still have places available and these can be found at www.greatrun.org
Councillor Mike Hancock, Executive Member for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “The Great South run is a hugely successful and popular event that attracts runners from all over the UK. It is a fantastic boost for the city and the local economy.”
