Pyramids celebrates the summer with seasonal offers

Pyramids poster After much campaigning by the local community, the city council announced last month that the Pyramids Centre in Southsea - due to close at the end of March - will stay open for another 13 months.  Celebrations start this month and continue throughout May in the form of price slashing.

There will be further cause for festivities later this year when the centre celebrates its 20th birthday.

Parkwood Leisure, the new operators of the centre, would like to show their thanks to everyone who supported the campaign to save the centre and to celebrate with the local community.

Celebrations will begin on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April when everyone will be able to swim for only £2, and will continue throughout May when all Portsmouth residents will be able to swim for ½ price.

Ben Lawrence, Centre Manager commented; “We were all thrilled when we heard that the centre was to remain open and all the staff are working hard to give it a new lease of life.  We want to make 2008 a year to remember in the history of The Pyramids”.

The Pyramids Centre was opened in July 1988 after the city council decided it needed a wet weather facility for tourists.  Primarily the site has two functions, firstly as a leisure pool complete with three flumes, tropical pools, a wave machine and much more.  The leisure complex is the only pool in the area that caters for families and people with disabilities.

The second is as a venue for bands, exhibitions, conferences and weddings.  As a music venue the site has hosted artists such as Radiohead, Muse, Lily Allen, Coldplay and the Artic Monkeys, who have all performed there since it was opened to bands in 1992.
