Get a taste of the Food Festival in Southsea
Although the weekend of 17 and 18 May looks set to be dominated by the Cup Final, those looking for an alternative can head to the Southsea Food Festival in the town centre, where a feast of delicious fare from around the country awaits you.
Offering a huge range of culinary delights, the Food Festival is only in its second year but has already established itself as the biggest event of its kind on the south coast. Tens of thousands of food lovers are expected to visit during the weekend, as well as dozens of food and drink retailers demonstrating and selling their wares. This includes over 60 Hampshire Farmers market stalls and a further 60 stalls from across the country, who will be joining local restaurateurs and producers.
The festival has a strong 'green' theme this year starting with 100 temporary bike stands and additional buses to cut down on the need to use a car.
Southsea town centre manager Samantha Fay is determined that visitors enjoy the finest foods and drink: "Every producer will be offering tastings, and as you get to meet the producers themselves, it makes discovering and trying new things so much more personal."
Throughout the festival the kitchen theatre will be showing non stop cooking and gadget demonstrations as well as offering master classes in all things food and drink, wine experts and a platform for local students to showcase award winning creations.
In the food village there will be an incredible choice of foods to enjoy while relaxing and watching a show, as well as live animals, music, face painting and lots of activities for children.
Make a weekend of it and stroll along the prom, picnic on the common or build a sandcastle on the beach.
