Community event to brighten up Buckland

A Crime Reduction and Environment Week (CREW) is taking place in Buckland, Portsmouth from Monday 21 April to Saturday 26 April.   

CREW brings together expertise from community agencies and knowledge from local residents to tackle crime issues and improve the living environment in Buckland. 

A number of events has been organised throughout the week by the police and Portsmouth City Council’s neighbourhood management team which includes, a young persons carnival with a Charles Dickens theme followed by a disco, sports day offering a football tournament and coaching on a range of sports, and a charity raffle with fun prizes.

Residents are also invited to attend a Respect and Wellbeing day-time event at the Buckland Community Centre on Wednesday 23 April.  They will be able to receive advice from community agencies as well as enjoy a tea dance and refreshments.  A free crèche will be available. 

Throughout the week, the police and the council’s neighbourhood management team will patrol the estate to speak with residents to identify problems areas that need improvements.  They plan to resolve any issues by the end of CREW. 

Nigel Selley, Portsmouth City Council’s Neighbourhood Manager, said: ‘CREW is a successful way of engaging with the local community.  We have held previous CREW events and received much positive feedback – it helps us improve the area and enhance community sprit for the benefit of residents.

“We encourage everyone in Buckland to take part in all of the activities – not only to learn new skills, but to show support for CREW.  By working together we will be able to improve the lives of many people.”
