It’s time to think big and think ahead
A meeting arranged by the Cultural Consortium, in partnership with the city council, about a vision for Portsmouth is being held tomorrow evening from 6pm at the Victory Suite, Fratton Park.
Recently a series of articles were published in The News about the ‘Creative Thinker’ process, which culminated in a public meeting at The King’s Theatre earlier in the year, when an invitation was extended by the city’s independent Cultural Consortium to encourage people to get involved.
In co-operation with the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), a steering group was formed to discuss a way of including a new vision document alongside the ten priorities with an overview of where Portsmouth could be in ten years. It was agreed that this document would contain only visionary language, not setting out policy commitments but ideas of what could be achieved for our city, as individuals, communities, or large organisations.
Cultural Consortium Treasurer Steve Pitt said: “Both the Cultural Consortium and the LSP want to use this opportunity to turn talk into action and ensure that Portsmouth does not have a ‘business as usual’ approach to its’ future, but embraces a wealth of possibilities for 2018 and beyond.
“As the next stage of this process, the Cultural Consortium would like to invite anyone who feels they could help to ‘Continue the Conversation’ begun by the creative thinkers to attend a Culture Matters event in the Victory Suite at Fratton Park on Tuesday 15 April at 6pm.
“This is an opportunity to find out more about the vision, suggest new ideas and new thinking, help to shape the future of the city and meet others who share their aspirations for Portsmouth”.
Anyone wishing to attend can register on-line at www.cultural-consortium.co.uk, or you can telephone 023 9284 1581. The event will include light refreshments and two tours of the ground for those who would like to see the home of our FA Cup Finalists.
The Portsmouth Cultural Consortium is an independent membership-based group of local people and the cultural sector interested in transforming cultural life in Portsmouth. It is run by volunteers, local people who care about culture.
