Last chance to see magical puppet exhibition

One of the puppets There’s a packed programme of activities during the school holidays in April – but hurry along to the City Museum and Records Office to catch the highly popular ‘Magic of Masks and Puppets’ exhibition which ends on Sunday 20 April.

Full of colour and fun and bringing together a fascinating collection of puppets and masks from around the world, over 13,000 people have visited the exhibition since it opened at the end of January.

Items on display include exhibits from films and television such as animatronic Morag the Cow from BBC television's Fully Booked and the infamous crawling Baby Dawn from the film Trainspotting, exquisite shadow puppets from India, Indonesia, Greece and Turkey, giant Russian Doll figures, Chinese marionettes and hand puppets, an antique Bunraku puppet from Japan and a Burmese Prince and Princess from the nineteenth century.

There is also a section dedicated to the European tradition including commedia dell'arte, Punch and Judy, toy theatre and Pelham Puppets. In addition you can see a wide-ranging collection of work from contemporary Scottish puppet companies.
