New seal exhibition at Natural History Museum
An exhibition on seals opens at the Cumberland House Natural History Museum, Eastern Parade in Portsmouth on Saturday 5 April until November.
With displays from the IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) showing information about seals and the effects of seal hunting, there is also local perspective where sightings that people have sent in are displayed with information from the Chichester Harbour Conservancy group on their seal survey. There will be small displays about seals added and changed throughout the year, so there will always be something new to see.
Claire Sturman, Natural Science Officer said: "This exhibition is a great opportunity to get to know more about seals, not just from around the world but also ones spotted locally.
"People can still send their seal sightings to me and these will be added to our map and updated. There is a small colony of seals in Chichester Harbour and they have also been sighted in the past at Langstone Harbour. It would be wonderful to add some local information to a national issue and help with conserving our local wildlife."
Entry to the museum is free - opening times are 10am - 5pm everyday and for more information you can contact Claire at claire.sturman@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or call 023 9282 7261.
