Lord Mayor's Office
Here you will find information about the current Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, along with a list of previous Lord Mayors and general information about the Lord Mayor's Office, its history and ceremony.
The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress are very keen to visit all aspects of the community during their year of office. If you have a function or engagement that you wish the Lord Mayor to attend, please contact the Lord Mayor's Administrative Officer.
Portsmouth was granted Letters Patent in 1926, which carried with it the title of Lord Mayor for its Leading Citizen. Before Local Government re-organisation in 1974 any citizen could be Lord Mayor, although in practice it was usually a member of the council. After 1974 it was a requirement that the Lord Mayor had to be a serving member of the elected council. The Lord Mayor nominates their own Lady Mayoress / Consort.
