Portsmouth City Council City Crest

The 'Full' and 'Edited' versions of the register

There are two versions of the Electoral Register; the ‘Full Register’ and the ‘Edited Register’.

The full register lists the name and address of everyone who is registered to vote. Anyone is allowed to look at this copy of the register but it is a criminal offence to supply or use copies for purposes other than those set down in law. Credit reference agencies are entitled to a copy of the full register. It can be used for other specified purposes such as law enforcement, or the Audit Commission for the National Fraud Initiative data matching exercise.

If you have any personal safety concerns regarding the inclusion of your details on the electoral register please contact the Election Services Office.

The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose. For example, it can be used for commercial purposes such as marketing. You do not have to be on this version of the register. If you wish to have your name left off of the edited register then you should tick the column marked 'Opt Out' on the registration form.

Please also see the document at the bottom of this page produced by the Electoral Commission.

If you have any questions concerning the above issues please contact the Election Services Office.
