Portsmouth has a story to tell! Working closely with local people and communities and the city's energetic commitment to community involvement has given us national recognition as one of the government’s ‘Civic Pioneers’.
The community involvement directory available below has been designed to inspire others to involve local people and communities in the decisions which affect them. It provides details of the many ways local people and communities can have their voice heard in the city whether through neighbourhood forums, resident and tenant participation, neighbourhood policing, Community Researchers or the Youth Affairs Service.
Please take a look at the directory and make use of the key contacts if you want to inform, consult or involve local people and communities or need advice or support with a particular project you or your team may be working on.
The directory aims to identify some of these positive examples, and signpost people to where to go to find out more. It has been developed by the Democratic & Community Engagement with Involve, the network of city council staff working in and with communities. We have also produced a short DVD celebrating Portsmouth’s approach to community involvement which we will be available online soon.
If you would like to have further information about Portsmouth’s approach to community involvement, or to get hold of your own copy of the directory, please contact the Democratic & Community Engagement team on (023) 9268 8555 or involve@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
