Launch of the Portsmouth Green Waste Club
A new garden waste collection service has launched for Portsmouth residents.
Operated and managed by Biffa, Portsmouth City Council’s refuse and recycling contractor, the Green Waste Club will replace the council’s current garden waste sack collection service, commencing in April 2013. Biffa is now taking bookings for this new service. In return for a modest membership fee, customers will receive a dedicated 240 litre wheeled bin for collecting their garden waste such as lawn clippings, prunings, leaf fall, twigs and small branches. Biffa’s crews will empty these bins every fortnight and take the garden waste for recycling into compost.
A 12 month subscription to the Club will cost residents £40 - but the good news is that the first 5,000 to sign up will pay just £30 for a year of regular fortnightly collections. That’s just £2.50 a month – the cost of a newspaper and a coffee!
To sign up for your new fortnightly garden waste collection, please either log on to Biffa's dedicated website at www.greenwasteclub.co.uk or phone their helpline number 0800 0858 286 (open 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday) where staff are ready and waiting to take your booking.
This new scheme replaces the previous green sack garden waste service and monthly garden waste collection days. The final garden waste collection day will be on Sunday 3 March at Victoria Avenue car park, Southsea (opposite the Holiday Inn) and Burrfields Road recreation ground car park from 9am to 2pm. There will be no more monthly garden waste collection days after 3rd March. Garden waste can also be taken to the Portsmouth Recycling Centre at Port Solent.
The new Green Waste Club provides customers with more than just a collection service. They also have access to excellent website facilities, a quarterly newsletter, social media and exclusive offers. For instance, the Club has just launched the pure @ home shopping reward card, which enables members to earn their subscription back. The pure @ home card can be preloaded with money that can be spent at a number of popular retailers. These retailers then return between three and ten percent of money spent with them back to the cardholder’s account.
Due to the introduction of the new scheme, we are no longer accepting the old PCC garden waste sack application forms, or selling sacks as of 31 January 2013. We will continue to collect any previously supplied garden waste sacks up to the end of September 2013. We would ask you to ensure you've used up any existing sacks by this date.
You can also compost your garden waste at home.
