Music & Theatre Guide

Musical notes Visitors and residents alike are often surprised by just how much is going on in Portsmouth. The city really is alive with a fantastic range of entertainment for all ages from morning 'til night, throughout the year.

Cinemas, music venues, galleries and theatres all combine to create a lively mix of activities for all to enjoy.

The city is home to one of the UK's premier touring music venues, The Wedgewood Rooms, as well as two superbly restored Victorian theatres – Kings Theatre and New Theatre Royal, who between them offer a diverse range of entertainment from comedy to contemporary theatre, opera to pantomine.

As well as the vue multiplex, as part of the Gunwharf Quays complex, Portsmouth also offers the hidden treasure of independent film screenings at No6 Cinema, tucked away in the Historic Dockyard.

Portsmouth Cathedral offers a classical music programme, The Guildhall hosts some of the biggest names in music and a number of smaller venues support the thriving local music scene in the city. Unfortunately, there isn't room here to highlight all of the venues in Portsmouth, but do use the external link to the right for information on the wide range of activity that the city has to offer.
