Portsmouth In Bloom
In the summertime, we all savour seeing many people's imagination and hard work come to fruition, as homes, gardens, parks, schools, police and fire stations, shops and streets, offices and workplaces around Portsmouth come to life with plants and flowers of all kinds. It really does make a difference to city life every year.So why not join in and use your green fingers this year?
There is both friendly rivalry and comradeship as participants are encouraged to enter their hard work in the annual Portsmouth In Bloom community competitions. This year we had over 250 entries in the 36 categories - these range from best front garden through to best display at industrial premises. There is a category for just about everybody - even best balcony!

HOW DO I BECOME AN 'IN BLOOM' CO-ORDINATOR?
If you like the idea of improving the city and in particular immediately where you live, then anyone with a bit of sparkle can become an In Bloom co-ordinator. Here's what you have to do :
- Use one of the methods of contact (listed above) to request all the free In Bloom packs you need
- As well as the packs, we will provide you with a letter asking your neighbours to attend a meeting so that you can plan your campaign
- You need to write down the meeting place, date, time and the number of letters you need
- A meeting in someone's home is always a good idea and in most instances, you will find some willing friends to help you do the canvassing
Start in a small way and you will surprised how well people will respond and the difference in your neighbourhood will be really pleasing. You will be talking to people whom you have possibly never spoken to before. Enter some of the community competitions, it is not just a case of winning, but taking part.
And finally, for all co-ordinators and prize winners there is a presentation evening when a video and slides are shown, as the City Council wish to thank everyone for their efforts.
