We will endeavour to put into practice the principles of a sustainable environment as contained within the Local Agenda 21 Initiative. Further information on how contractors can also work towards this can be found within the Common Values Partnership section, using the link to the right.
We are committed to an Equalities and Diversity Policy that covers race, disability and sexual orientation. An important part of this commitment is encouraging and, where possible, requiring companies and other organisations which bid for our services to practise equality and diversity in employment and service delivery.
We will take into account within our tender evaluation and contracting processess, a potential contractor's approach to equality in terms of its employment practices and service delivery, which will also be monitored and managed during the life of each contract. Commitment to the Common Values Partnership initiative will also assist contractors in matching our own objectives with reference to equal opportunities and employment and customer care issues. For more information use the link to the right for equality and the Common Values Partnership.
We are committed to ensure the health and safety of our residents, visitors, employees and users of all our facilities and services. As part of this on going commitment we continually assess and monitor the way in which contractors and suppliers provide their services to Portsmouth, whilst also reviewing the way in which we carry out such assessments.
Any provider in the construction industry or associated building trades who wants to contract with us must comply with the Contractors' Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS), or its equivalent. This must cover all categories of work included in the contract, such as plumbing and demolition. For more information on how your company can gain approval you can visit the CHAS website or contact our Health & Safety Unit using the link to the right.
Generally insurance requirements are stated within the tender/contract documents. However, as a minimum most contracts will require the contractor to be covered by an Employer's and Public Liabilities Insurance to the value of £10,000,000.
