Common Values Partnership
Last updated: 06 August 2008 09:45 UKThe Common Values Partnership (CVP) is an original initiative developed by us and is the first of its kind in the country.
Its purpose is to encourage our suppliers, contractors and other business partners to work together to adopt community based values which have a direct effect on the community in which we live and work.
Through our role as a major contributor to the local economy, we want our commercial partners to sign up to:
- increasing employment opportunities through training and apprenticeship schemes
- adopting good employment practice
- working in partnership with the community at large
- discouraging the use of on street parking for commercial vehicles
- implementing strategies to protect our environment
- bring about greater awareness within our business community in terms of racial awareness and equal opportunities
What are the benefits to you?
Apart from working with us to make Portsmouth a better place to live and work, there are a number of actual benefits to companies who take part such as:
- award of CVP certificates
- accreditation logo for use on letterheads and livery - levels 4 and 5 only
- feedback from us on areas for business development
- access to specialist business advice and advisors
- your company details added to our Role of Honour - see below to find out more
The scheme is voluntary and open to all areas of our business community who are willing to work with us to deliver these community based improvements, while at the same time develop their business in a way which is considered to be best practice.

Roll of Honours
In 2003 a special presentation ceremony took place in the Lord Mayor's Parlour in the Guildhall where the then Lord Mayor, Councillor Tom Blair, made presentations to the first three companies to receive accreditation to the Common Values Partnership. Over 100 companies have now taken part in the this scheme, achieving various levels and many are striving to improve their level of commitment.
