Portsmouth City Council City Crest

Sustainable procurement

The Earth 'Sustainable Procurement is a process whereby an organisations meet their needs for goods, services, works and utilities in a way that achieves value for money on a whole life basis in terms of generating benefits not only to the organisation but also to society  and the economy whilst minimising damage to the environment.'

Here to help.

Portsmouth City Council recognise that our own environmental influence extends well beyond our staff and work places.  We take very seriously the impact of our procurement activities have on the environment.

We actively pursue a policy of Sustainable Procurement and in 2007 adopted a Sustainable Procurement Policy, a copy of which can be found at the link on the right 'internal links'.

We are committed to working towards the ambitious targets set out by the Governments Sustainable Development Strategy 2005 and the subsequent Sustainable Procurement Task Force - Action plan a copy of which is given at the link to the right..

Without the support of our suppliers our efforts will not be successful.  We need your commitment to share in a more environmental approach, reassessing your own practices and pushing the boundaries throughout your supply chain to achieve a more sustainable approach.  We understand that this can't happen overnight and may seem a daunting prospect.  However we are here to help.
