Licensing
Last updated: 04 April 2013 15:41 UKWhat Licences/Registrations do we cover?
We are responsible for the majority of statutory licences, permits and registrations prescribed by law although colleagues in other departments also deal with some licensing functions. You can see the licence types under our jurisdiction in the links shown below.
We are now located on the third floor of the Civic Offices in Community Safety although a dedicated ground floor duty reception area to deal with licensing matters will be maintained.
We are part of a Europe-wide scheme which aims to break down barriers to cross border trade in services between countries in the EU.
The EU Services Directive has been brought in to make it easier for service providers, particularly small and medium sized enterprises, to offer their services to customers in all EU countries, whether establishing elsewhere in the EU or providing services remotely from the UK.
Many of the licences we are responsible for fall under the directive, but not all.

Who Do We Report To?
We report to the Head of Community Safety. Our parent Committee is the Licensing Committee. Policy matters, important public issues, contested applications and disciplinary cases against licence holders are put before the Licensing Committee or one of the established Sub-Committee's for determination.
Generally speaking (and where the law permits) we have delegated authority to deal with licensing matters ourselves but usually we consult with the public, Councillors and other professional council officers who offer technical advice to us.
