What is fostering?

Children who require foster care will often be confused, anxious and in need of reassurance, support and an adult to care about them.

Foster care involves more than caring for a child in your home. You will be working closely with Portsmouth City Council’s social services and have meetings with social workers, health visitors and other childcare professionals.

You will play a key role in supporting their education and encouraging high achievement.

Children are also encouraged, where appropriate, to maintain contact with their own families. This could involve their parents, brothers and sisters visiting your home.
