Portsmouth City Council City Crest

Portsmouth Bike2Work day

We promote a Bike2Work day during National Bike Week each year.

This years Bike2Work day was Tuesday 17 June 2008.

Local organisations and businesses give out FREE tshirts to their employees to encourage them to cycle to work.

We saw more than 1500 people cycling to work on the day, wearing their tshirt with the message 'Vroom'.

The aim is to encourage people to try cycling to work on the day, with the intention to then keep it up in the future.

Benefits of cycling include:

  • No need to pay to park
  • Save money on running costs
  • Get to work quicker
  • More reliable than peak time traffic
  • Get fitter
  • Health benefits
  • Reduce stress levels
  • Reduce your carbon footprint
  • Help reduce congestion and pollution

At peak times in cities bikes average 10-12 mph while cars travel 8-12 mph
Cycle to work and you can vroom on by!
