M275 Tipner scheme
Tipner has been mostly derelict for a number of years but the land has massive potential, forming a key gateway to Portsmouth.
We believe regenerating the Tipner area will bring major benefits to Portsmouth, notably the clean-up of former industrial land, the creation of new open spaces, parks and waterside walks, as well as much-needed homes and jobs.
With the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), we're submitting a planning application for a new motorway junction at Tipner and a bus lane alongside the M275 from Tipner to Rudmore roundabout. We also propose to restrict the M275 between Tipner Bridge and Portmouth to 50mph.
The proposals would be the first step towards the wider regeneration of the Tipner area. They would also help the development of a new park and ride for the city and a new fast bus link between Fareham and Portsmouth.
Next steps
The planning application for the proposed new motorway junction has been submitted and you can now comment on it. If approved, the junction would be the main route for traffic in and out of the development. It will also greatly reduce the impact of construction traffic on local roads.
Following the submission of the planning application, a business case will be submitted to the Department of Transport, in the hope that this will lead to the government providing most of the funds needed for the junction.
