Statement of licensing principles
Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council, as Licensing Authority for purposes of the Gambling Act 2005 (“the Act”), has published its statement of licensing principles in accordance with section 349 of the Act.The Gambling Act 2005 creates a new system of licensing and regulation for commercial gambling in this country and licensing authorities will have new powers to licence gambling premises within their area which will include casinos, bingo halls, betting shops, adult gaming centres, family entertainment centres, track betting premises, gaming machine permits and small society lotteries.
Licensing authorities are required by the Act to publish a statement of the principles which they propose to apply when exercising their functions. This statement must be published at least every three years. The statement must also be reviewed from “time to time” and any amended parts re-consulted upon. The statement must then be re-published.
The statement was published on 3 January 2007 and came into effect on 31 January 2007.
