Who’s who in the regeneration

Regeneration Project Board

The Somerstown and North Southsea Regeneration Project Board was set up to oversee the development of a new regeneration plan or framework for the area. The Board is made up of key stakeholders including local residents and elected members and officers from the city council. They are joined by representatives from key interest groups in the area, which include:

  • leaseholders
  • local businesses
  • minority ethnic communities
  • parents
  • Portsmouth City Primary Care Trust
  • schools
  • students
  • University of Portsmouth
  • young people

For further information, or to raise issues on behalf of any of these stakeholder groups, please contact us. If you are a leaseholder and have any questions or concerns about the regeneration that you would like to raise with the leaseholder representatives, please contact us as well.

Regeneration Participation Group

A Regeneration Participation Group, made up of local residents is also working to ensure that local people are involved in any plans to improve the area. This group is chaired by Simon Marsh, a local resident, and meets regularly to discuss issues of consultation and community involvement, publicity and communications. The group is open to any local resident who wishes to come along.

Design team and finance consultants

In May/June 2005, a Design Team and finance consultants were appointed to work with residents to develop a new regeneration plan. The selection panel that decided upon the successful candidates was made up of community and stakeholder representatives nominated by the Somerstown and North Southsea Regeneration Project Board and officers from the council.

The design team is led by Terence O’Rourke in partnership with Alan Baxter Associates. Terence O’Rourke has experience in other regeneration projects. They bring with them skills in urban design, master planning, landscape architecture, architecture and environmental management. Alan Baxter Associates are transport and traffic experts, again with lots of regeneration experience and skills at solving parking and traffic issues and creating safer streets.

Grant Thornton have been appointed as financial consultants to provide guidance on funding the regeneration, and will also ensure that any new regeneration plan is financially viable and deliverable.
