Development Control Committee

The Development Control Committee generally meets every three weeks to determine planning applications. It is one of the principal committees of the City Council and comprises 9 councillors with Councillor Darron Phillips as Chair and Councillor David Stephen Butler as Vice-Chair.

Anyone who wants to put up or extend a building, or develop land in any way, usually needs Planning Permission. Under the Town and Country Planning Acts the local authority has power to ensure that any development is considered by all the parties concerned before it can go ahead. Other related consents may be required. Most building works will also need Building Regulation approval to ensure that they meet standards of construction and safety.

If you are in any doubt as to whether permission is needed, please contact us by telephone through the City Help Desk - Tel: 023 9283 4092.
