Environment
Most of our environmental protection team's work involves regulating pollution, especially noise and air pollution. We also help with planning applications and applications for entertainment licences. We research the industrial history of the city to find land which may be contaminated and work with developers and others to ensure the land is made safe where necessary.
Air quality is an issue for the city, mainly because of the quantity of traffic. We operate air pollution monitoring stations and the information from these sites helps us assess air quality.
Seawater quality is also an issue - we continue to experience intermittent high pollution levels at Southsea beach.
Our pest control team gives advice and help to residents and businesses who have problems with rats, mice, squirrels, fleas, wasps, cockroaches, bed bugs and other insects, as well as pigeons.
