City Centre North (Northern Quarter)
This sheet should be read in conjunction with the Tricorn and City Centre information sheets.
Currently the site for the proposed northern city centre redevelopment is a largesurface car park and many buildings of varying quality of which most are still
occupied. The surface car park is where the old Tricorn shopping centre was situated, but this new redevelopment will stretch from Charlotte Street (starting at HMV on the western side of Commercial Road) up to Sainsbury’s. It will also include the job centre between Commercial Road and Lake Road, and go as far west as St Agatha’s church.
The scheme has not been called-in by the First Secretary of State, John Prescott, therefore planning permission will be decided by the local planning authority, indicating that the scheme has a better chance of being open on time.
