Cycle Training

Cycle training is delivered through several different routes in Portsmouth.

• Bikeability
• Pedal Power - Under 10s
• Adult city cycle skills
• Urban rides for secondary schools

Bikeability

NEWS! - We're on track to train 1500 year 5s and 6s this year!

Bikeability is the Cycling Proficiency for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's roads. There are three Bikeability levels and children will be encouraged and inspired to achieve all three levels, recognising that there is always more to learn and to enjoy on a bike. http://www.bikeability.org.uk/

The contract for this training has been outsourced to a local company called Pedal Power until March 2012. Subject to funding we will continue to offer this training into the future.

All year 6 and some year 5 children attending Portsmouth schools that encourage cycling as a means of transport to and from school will be offered free places on the course (up to level 2) that we aim to deliver during the school day.

We have the capacity and funding to train every year 6 in the city this academic year.

Bikeability catch up course

If your child has missed Bikeability at school then they could attend a catch up course. These courses are subject to demand and would be run in the school holidays. If you are interested in registering your child for a catch up course then please call our contractor Pedal Power on 023 9229 0474 or email pedalpowertraining@gmail.com for details.

Guided rides

Family guided rides are run in Portsmouth by a voluntary group - Portsmouth Cycle Forum. They frequently run fun, themed rides around the city and most are free.

Pedal Power Under 10s training

This training is available through schools and nurseries and is linked to Healthy Pompey scheme.

Adult city cycle skills

Haven't ridden a bike for a while? Need a confidence boost or just some extra practice? We are starting to run adult cycle training in small groups, if you are interested please call 023 9268 8262 or email travel@portsmouthcc.gov.uk for more details
