Northern Quarter Redevelopment Site (City Centre North)
Last updated: 11 May 2010 11:12 UKWe are working in partnership with our development partner Centros to achieve the comprehensive development of this site. This will enable Portsmouth to compete with the UK’s major retail destinations.
The site has planning permission for:
- up to 96,200 m2 of retail floorspace
- up to 6,650 m2 of leisure uses
- up to 200 residential units (including affordable housing)
- a 150 bed hotel
More information about the approved scheme:
- a compulsory purchase order was put in place to facilitate it
- for the approved outline application setting out the principle for the development (although the new highways layout was approved in full), see application A*39165/AA
- for the approved John Lewis department store, see application 06/00880/REM
- for the approved reserved matters application for the rest of the scheme (excluding the John Lewis department store and hotel), see application 08/00099/REM
Since these planning applications were considered by the city council, Centros has stated that the project will be redesigned. We are working with Centros on the revised scheme and will make sure that the public are consulted on the proposals at the appropriate time.
As the Northern Quarter comes forward, we will ensure that the proposals seamlessly integrate with the rest of Commercial Road through the City Centre Improvements scheme and projects in Station Square and Station Street.
