Portsmouth City Council City Crest

Hilsea lido

Hilsea Lido, first opened in 1935, is located on a site covering 8 acres in the north west corner of Portsea island.

In 1973, the Portsmouth City Corporation (now Portsmouth City Council) decided to improve the facilities by reducing the depth of the pool and installing a filtration plant and heating systems.

Hilsea Lido was turned down for listing in 1994 as it was considered not to be 'of comparable architectural quality with either Saltdean Lido or Jubilee Pool, Penzance, International Modern style seaside Lidos which are listed, or Peterborough, a listed urban Lido which is in a Spanish style '.

Local Development Framework (LDF)
An Area Action Plan for the Hilsea Lido site will be prepared in 2006 as part of the Local Development Framework.
