Anchorage Park & Airport Industrial Estate

This factsheet traces the residential and industrial development of the former airport.

The land for the aerodrome was purchased by the City in 1930 and first opened in 1932. It was formally closed in December 1973, after a series of minor accidents.

The City Airport District Local Plan was adopted by the City Council on 19 September 1979 and set out the future development of the 40.5 hectare (100 acres) former City Council owned airport site.
