D-Day Museum

The D-Day museum was built to commemorate the D-Day landings of June 1944, in which Portsmouth played an important role, acting as departure point for many of the forces involved. 

The Museum stands in the vicinity of Southsea Common, one of  Portsmouth’s most heavily visited tourist areas, close to the Blue Reef Aquarium and The Pyramids Leisure Centre.  Immediately to the south of the Museum is Southsea Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument originally built in the 16th Century for Henry VIII and itself a key tourist attraction.
