Cascades shopping centre
In 1977, the City Planning Officer and City Estates Officer produced a report, "Moores Square - Redevelopment Options". This indicated that the City Centre needed an injection of new life and new development, in order to be competitive with the growing number of shopping centres nearby. The report proposed a scheme embracing the Moores Square area. After agreeing the outline of the scheme, the City sought development partners and chose Taylor Woodrow to whom the City could transfer its land.
There were many Public Inquiries into the principle of the Plan and the whole procedure took approximately ten years to implement.
