The Role Of Officers

Ordinarily you will see the following officers at the Licensing Committee:
  • A Legal Adviser whose role is to assist the Committee with legal advice and to ensure that a fair and balanced hearing takes place.
  • The Licensing Officer or his representative whose role is to advise on policy, present cases, explain recommendations and call on other council officers (if necessary) to give evidence to the Committee, eg Environmental Health, Planning, Engineers.
  • A Committee Administrator whose role is to summarise and record decisions on individual matters and to provide help and assistance to members of the public attending such meetings.
  • The Police and Fire Authorities are sometimes represented at Committee hearings. They are not officers of the Council but attend to give impartial advice as required by law.
